the in laws gave us this wonderful “placemat” during the holidays. it has all of her family and their names (in english and dutch). i’m not sure what it’s made out of but think of it as a large mouse pad. it collected dust mostly since the holidays since the lil’ one has shown zero interest in it.

but when we returned from the netherlands, i took it out so she can remember her family. because it’s a large mouse pad, this thing is durable. she has drooled on it, tried to eat it, tried to rip it and it withstands the abuse of a toddler (which is much better than actually giving her a photo album or ipad or anything with photos). besides abusing it like any one year old would do, i discovered her also doing something awesome with it. she gives kisses to it. she will just sit in her lil’ corner, kiss her hand and then put her hand on the different faces while kicking her feet. it’s pretty darn cute.

but of course she stops as soon as i get closer to her and try to video it.

i always thought buying a giant mouse pad like thing with photos on it was cheesy but this gift has shown to be pretty darn priceless.

this photo makes me giggle and i can use a giggle today. i love how much the lil’ one has to strain her neck to look up to our tallest dutch friend (he’s only six five or so).

for her one year check up, the lil’ one was tested for lead and anemia and they took two vials of blood. she cried the whole time but as soon as it was over, she wanted to play with the technician and gave her a bunch of smiles. she gave me the stink eye. at least she is a lil’ trooper and bounced back quite quickly.

the parents came up this weekend to help us out with recovering and to watch the lil’ one on sunday while the husband and i shot (whenever possible, i use the husband as my assistant. he rocks like that) at vasona park. i love seeing the photos of my parents adventures with the lil’ one.

she’s blowing kisses to the duckies…gah! we’ve also successfully taught her how to give kisses in three languages (english, dutch and vietnamese). at this rate, she’ll be trilingual by the time she’s thirty?

i’ve been trying to make an effort to bring more color into my wardrobe instead of sticking to white, grey or black. so i bought this new shirt and wasn’t so sure about the color.

the husband gave me the seal of approval by telling me that he really liked my double chin. i really love english being his second language since it leads to some funny laughs.
