a traveler. a photographer. a wife. a mother. a muser. a lover of northern california. a child of southern california. a beer connoisseur. a scuba diver. a roller coaster enthusiast. a renowned chef in her own kitchen. there is no rhyme or reason in this tumblr. and my name is kim. all images and content © kim ebbets unless otherwise stated. all rights reserved.
we drove down highway one on our way to the madonna inn in san luis obispo and the poor little one had a rough time. the drive is stunning and follows the coast line. and all she wanted to do was play at the beach. it was such a tease for her. especially here at the bixby bridge viewpoint. she pretty much wanted to run to the beach…yea nope!
disclaimer: this photo was not on the cliff side, there is a wide path behind it plus the husband was right next to her. realized should make the disclaimer since it does look sketchy:
since the coastal drive was such a tease for her, we stopped at pfeiffer state beach for her to play and for us to have lunch. this made her super happy.
i wish that i could say that i took a lot of pictures during our time in slo but honestly, i kept the big camera in the bag most of the time and captured most of the trip on the cell phone. sometimes it’s nice to just not have the weight of it all and try to be in the moment. although at one point during the trip, i heard a lil’ voice coming from the back seat say “mama always takes pictures.” nothing helps put the camera down faster than that.
we’re doing thanksgiving this year differently. we’re driving down the 1 highway to san luis obispo and spending it at the madonna inn. we have no idea what we’re doing for dinner tomorrow night but i do know that we will be thankful of being able to spend this holiday a bit differently but still full of love and togetherness. wishing everyone an absolutely wonderful thanksgiving with pants that become unbuttoned after the first twenty minutes :)
this weekend was a busy and fun weekend. i wrapped up the final of my photo sessions for the year (whooo break time, seriously, i shoot jan-nov almost straight on and last year, barely got to enjoy the holidays because i was shooting well into december. no way i was going to do that again this year). the husband came along to both locations so he could hang out with the lil’ one at a new park and at hidden villa. after my sessions, we got to hang out a bit together plus someone was awesome enough to pick up the camera and take some photos of me with the lil’ one. something i rarely get but always love.
my wardrobe whenever i shoot is always a white shirt and comfy pants (though after hidden villa’s session, i made the husband run back to the car and get my jacket vest because it was cold once the sun disappeared, burr). a lil’ secret of mine that i’m going to share? white shirt = boom, instant reflector. just a little hint for some of you :)
i dusted off the tripod, remote shutter release and loaded up my camera bag with lots of lollipops and candy and we headed out to palo alto for me to scout a location plus to attempt in taking some family photos for this year’s holiday cards (not sure if we want to do a family photo or just cute photos of the lil’ one yet). you would think that being a photographer, i would be on top of things like hiring a photographer for our holiday photos. but in all honesty, i put most of my focus during this time of year towards other families that i forget about capturing mine. so remind me next year to hire a photographer. here are just some of my favorites (the family ones aren’t perfect or sharp but it shows us as a family and i will take that any day over perfection) and it only took three lollipops for the lil’ one! :)
so remember how i did that wedding? since then i’ve been thinking about whether i want to start adding wedding photography to my services (i’ve done engagement sessions and save the dates but i tend to say that i specialize in family photography). it’s hard to want to offer weddings when i have done one so i figured that i might as well get out there, be creative and practice. so i met up with a bunch of other photographers for a wedding stylized session. and what a perfect way to be surrounded by other creative minds and to feel inspired again (seriously, this was really needed). these are just some of my favorite photos from the day (three couples and no time rush!). now anyone getting married and would want to have me photograph your awesome day?! :)

i’ve been quiet on tumblr since my last post since i just haven’t had much to say plus trying to balance it all has become a bit challenging. but i do want to say thank you so much, you are all amazing and every comment, message, heart and thought just made me feel so much better and stronger and wish that i could just hang out with this community. so thank you. and okay, enough sap from me, i will try to post up pretty pictures of the lil’ one soon :)
watching all the tumblr 311 videos made my night last night and i really needed it. i would have done one but it probably would have been one messy mess of me and emotions so not the best kind of video. we learned yesterday that not all pregnancies end up in with a baby. now excuse me while i probably eat too much sushi, deli meat, coffee and alcohol for the next few days while i try to wrap my head around this. i debated writing this but feel that it helps to get it out in the open to share and heal from rather than keep inside. xo.
the past years for halloween with the lil’ one, we’ve only painted pumpkins (last year she could barely hold a paintbrush and the year prior she could barely hold herself up, ha). so this was the first year that we really carved a pumpkin with the lil’ one and she pretty much loved it (though she didn’t care for the guts too much).
the lil’ one also went to bed tonight jumping up and down screaming “tomorrow halloweeeeeeen!” it’s going to be a long day tomorrow :-)
we took the lil’ one to haunt history park which we have figured out is our new favorite thing. the park is one of my favorites for the lil’ one but their halloween festivities just reassured me how much i loved it. each of the old style houses had tricks to pass out (and the majority of the houses gave out toys, bubbles and play doh, not candy which is awesome), they had lots of games (geared for older ones but easily adjusted for lil’ one’s with cute prizes) and a trolley that strolled through the grounds. since the halloween festivities have started, she has been asking to go trick or treating every night. oh sugar high.
